In the Finnish Glass Museum Tapio Wirkkala (1915-1985), a leading light in the Finnish industrial arts and a designer of objects that became classics, got a chance to realize his vision of a museum as a total artwork. Wirkkala designed the spaces and permanent exhibition in an old industrial building that had once been a glass factory, a silk-screen printers, and more. The impressive Museum opened in Riihimäki in 1981, reflecting Wirkkala's extensive experience as an internationally respected interior and exhibition designer. Nowadays, the building houses a living museum that attracts tourists and experts from around the world.
