Vascular Factors in Alzheimer's Disease

Is failure in vascular integrity a causal factor in Alzheimer's disease? Vascular factors -- including cerebral abnormalities, cardiovascular pathophysiology, and genetic influences -- are rapidly gaining importance in the study of the cause and progression of Alzheimer's disease, cerebral amyloid angiopathy, and other dementias. This edited volume presents some of the latest findings. The contributors address several important epidemiologic, pathologic, and clinical issues in establishing the role of vascular pathogenesis of these debilitating disorders, including a review of cholinergic and other molecular mechanisms; white matter lesions; and the role of apolipoprotein E. Addressing timely issues, the presenters offer new approaches to diagnostic, preventive and treatment strategies for vascular expressions of the dementias.
