Love Lessons on Bird Beach

Fifteen year old Beth and Franny are best friends. Beth is interested in boys and Spanish; Franny, a tomboy, is interested in adventure. School's out for the summer, and the two girls vacation on a Mexican beach. What begins as an ordinary summer develops into a lifelong lesson- one that changes them forever.Beth and Franny rescue a paralyzed seagull, a starving pelican, another with a hopelessly broken wing, and numerous other seabirds. As they begin to understand the beauty and frailty of life, they glean a new understanding of who they are, both to each other and to the world. Immersed in a foreign culture, they experience the world through the eyes of those who have entirely different economic and social realities. They learn that love, truth, and beauty are the essence of all cultures, and that these intangibles never die.
