Salafist Jihadism In Germany: An OSINT Analysis Of A Growing Threat

This book shows an open source analysis (OSINT) of a growing threat. For many years underestimated by German politicians the Salafist Jihadism in Germany has been identified as one of the greatest threats in Germany and also in other parts of the world. Some graphics in this book also show the links in-between the players - national and international. Persons, organisations, locations, cities, regions and contries, who are direct or indirect affiliated with Salafism and Jihadism activities, are listed in a table. Many known and not so much known names are mentioned. More than 250 footnotes with national and international sources give the reader the possibility to verify the background.

In March 2011 Germany had to experience a first successful Jihadi attack on its soil. Two U.S. servicemen got killed and two more injured, when the 21 year old, Kosovo born Arid Uka opened fire at Frankfurt International Airport on a bus carrying U.S. airmen bound for Afghanistan. The attack took many analysts by surprise even though since long authorities had warned that an Islamist motivated terror attack in Germany might be unavoidable. It was unexpected, however, that the perpetrator of such an attack would not be known to the German security establishment. All evidence so far suggests that Uka was radicalized in a domestic milieu of radical Muslims but planned and executed the attack independently.ii For years already, Al Qaeda ideologues have been calling on Muslims to independently stage attacks in the West. Yet, almost all of the previous attempts of militant Muslims for attacks in Germany were connected to foreign groups, even though the perpetrators were often radicalized in a homegrown milieu. In the past decade at least twelve more plots have been registered. All of them could be thwarted or failed due to faulty planning and execution.
