This book describes how specialized requirements of NASA and others have influenced the evolution of fluidic systems from a laboratory curiosity known as a fluid amplifier in 1959 to operational systems employing hundreds of fluidic devices and fluidic integrated circuits. In addition to describing the contributions sponsored by the various NASA Centers, this book points out that a dynamic and growing fluidics industry has sprung up which is now independent of government sponsorship, although the industry continues to support NASA, DOD, and AEC fluidics requirements. This book also offers suggestions on how to apply fluidics to new uses and how firms not presently familiar with this growing new technology may evaluate its worth and start to exploit its many advantages. As they do, new uses will be added to the current long list of weighing, measuring, counting, temperature sensing, and control functions already in being. This publication is one of a series sponsored by the NASA Technology Utilization Office to help industry benefit from research and development in the aerospace field."--Foreword.
