About
"Prairie Skyscraper traces the history and evolution of the Price Tower through a series of essays written by eminent Wright scholars and historians - presenting numerous important documents, drawings, and photographs from the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation and the Price Tower Arts Center. Many of these items are shown here in print and exhibition for the very first time. Coming at the end of his fertile career, the Price Tower demonstrated Wright's use of his organic system of geometry to build a skyscraper with a central supporting core and cantilevered floors - known as the "taproot" system of construction and regarded by Wright himself as one of his most important contributions to architecture. Examination of this geometric language and its expression in the Price Tower reveals a symbolic function of design that went beyond the traditional statements of corporate and economic power associated with tall buildings."--BOOK JACKET.
