The book by former readers digest editor LeLand Stowe is about a true mountain man who lived a week hike from his neighbors for 40 years in the 20th century, the story documented there. The old guy saved the Trumpeter Swan, possibly from extinction by nuturing the flock that came to his lake. This is a great book to give to a kid who loves the outdoors about what a person can accomplish if he or she tries.
