D J. Whythe

Brought up in Walworth, then in Chiswick. Evacuated to High Wycombe early in WWII, where he attended the Grammar School. Joined the RAF as LAC (aircraft maintenance fitter). Sponsored to Imperial College, London, by the BBC after leaving the RAF. After graduation he joined the BBC and became a permanent member of their Research establishment at Kingswood Warren. Forced to retire early in 1980 due to a deteriorating problem with his back, he and his wife moved to Norfolk, where he died a year later.
