María del Carmen Iglesias

María del Carmen Iglesias Cano (Madrid, March 16, 1942) is a Spanish historian, professor and academic, expert in the 18th century. She has been a member of the Royal Academy of History since 1991, an institution she has directed since 2014, being the first woman to hold the position. She has also been a member of the Spanish Royal Academy since 2000, occupying seat E (and capital). She was the tutor of the Infanta Cristina and preceptor of Felipe VI. She holds the non-hereditary title Countess of Gisbert, which was bestowed on her by King Juan Carlos.
